Putin approves Russia’s Arctic state policy framework

The document defines the goals, main areas and targets, as well as mechanisms of implementation of state policy of the Russian Federation in the region

MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin has approved Russia’s state policy framework in the Arctic through 2035.

"The framework is a document of strategic planning in the field of ensuring national security of the Russian Federation, which has been developed for the purpose of protecting national interests of the Russian Federation in the Arctic," according to the presidential decree released on the official portal of legal information on Thursday. The document defines "the goals, main areas and targets, as well as mechanisms of implementation of state policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic."

"Ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, preserving the Arctic as a territory of peace, stable and mutually beneficial partnership, ensuring high quality of life and wellbeing of the population of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation as a strategic resource base and it efficient use for the purposes of speeding up economic growth of the Russian Federation, development of the Northern Sea Route as a globally competitive national transport communication channel of the Russian Federation, environmental protection in the Arctic, protection of primordial living environment and the traditional way of life of native minorities inhabiting the territory of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation" have been specified as Russia’s national interests in the Artic.
