Gunpowder blast at military unit in Russia's Far East kills one, injures several others

At the moment, nothing is burning there

KHABAROVSK, May 12. /TASS/. A gunpowder explosion took place in a military installation in the Teysin settlement in the Amursky district of the Khabarovsk Region, one serviceman died, seven people were injured, a source in the region's emergency services told TASS on Thursday.

"There's a military base there, something has exploded. One died, several others were injured. They were taken to the hospital," the source said.

Another TASS source in the emergency services specified that there was a gunpowder explosion at the military base.

"According to preliminary data, careless handling of explosive objects may have caused the gunpowder explosion. The exact version will be established during the course of the investigation," the agency's interlocutor said.

He also specified that at the moment, the fire caused by the explosion has been extinguished.

"The military base’s fire department and one district fire department squad managed to put out the fire. Nothing is burning there now," the agency's interlocutor said.

The Teysin settlement is 82 kilometers southeast of Komsomolsk-on-Amur and 10 kilometers southeast of the Elban settlement. There is a railway station of the same name and a military unit in the settlement.
