MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. Russia and Myanmar have finalized the talks on a draft of agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investment, the press service of the Russian Economic Development Ministry said in a statement following a meeting between heads of the two countries.
"Economic Development Minister of Russia, Maksim Reshetnikov, and Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar, Kan Zaw, have signed a joint statement on completion of talks on a draft of agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investment," the statement reads.
Russian companies consider Myanmar as one of areas for the launch of investment projects, the ministry said, adding that "such projects should be backed by additional guarantees of protection of investors’ rights." "Such guarantees will be stipulated by the future agreement on encouragement and protection of investment. In particular, the agreement bans discrimination of Russian investors compared with other foreign investors operating on the market of Myanmar," according to the ministry.
