Aeroflot increases passenger traffic via Sheremetyevo by 19% in 2024

The implementation of the high-intensity Shuttle program allowed to increase the volume of traffic to St. Petersburg by 5.2%

MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. Aeroflot Group's passenger traffic via its base airport Sheremetyevo in 2024 increased by 19% year-on-year to 36.8 mln people, Aeroflot CEO Sergey Aleksandrovsky said in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"Sheremetyevo Airport reached a passenger volume of 36.8 mln passengers, which is 19% more than last year," he said.

The implementation of the high-intensity Shuttle program allowed to increase the volume of traffic to St. Petersburg by 5.2%. At the same time, Aleksandrovsky said, the Group's total traffic through St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport reached 11.2 mln passengers.

Earlier, Aeroflot reported a 5% increase in passenger traffic through Pulkovo to over 11.1 mln passengers. Over 10.3 mln of these passengers traveled on domestic routes (+3%). As for international routes, passenger traffic through St. Petersburg grew by 40% to 804,000 passengers.

Aeroflot Group's passenger traffic increased by 16.8% year-on-year to 55.3 mln people, the company said in a statement. At the same time, the group's leading airline, Aeroflot Airlines, increased its passenger traffic by 19.3% to 30.1 mln people.

Aleksandrovsky also noted that the safety level of Aeroflot Group flights in 2024 reached 99.977%. According to him, in 2023-2024, one incident accounted for an average of 5,730 flight hours, which is a record figure since 2017. "The safety level of Aeroflot in 2024 reached 99.977%. In 2023 the figure was 99.973%, that is, almost comparable values. This year, in 2024, we have even slightly improved this figure," he said.

Aleksandrovsky stressed that there are no problems with aircraft maintenance. "Yes, it has become more expensive. Yes, in some ways it has become longer. But from the point of view of the maintenance fund we absolutely have all the necessary units, components, and spare parts. We have the largest hangar capacities and we are one of the leading companies in aircraft maintenance," the Aeroflot chief added.
