Chinese companies cut coal production by 4.1% in Q1 to 1.11 bln tons

The average volume of China’s coal production reached 12.88 mln tons per day in three months

BEIJING, April 16. /TASS/. China’s coal producers reduced coal output (including lignite) by 4.1% in January-March to 1.11 bln tons, the National Bureau of Statistics of China reported.

In March, coal production amounted to 400 mln tons (down by 4.2% in annual terms), according to the report. The rates of decline were roughly similar to those in January-February.

The average volume of China’s coal production reached 12.88 mln tons per day in three months. The country imported 120 mln tons of coal in Q1, up by 13.9%, the report said.

Russia’s coal export to China has been on the rise. In 2023, Russian supplies gained 52% (to around 90 mln tones). China’s total purchases of coal feedstock (including lignite) from other countries amounted to 474.41 mln tons last year, up by 61.8% compared with 2022.
