China’s coal imports up 22.9% in January-February to 74.51 mln tons

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier that Beijing boosted purchases of Russian coal by 52% in 2023

BEIJING, March 7. /TASS/. China’s imports of coal (including lignite) amounted to 74.51 mln tons in January-February 2024, up by 22.9%, the General Administration of Customs of China reported.

In value terms, coal imports fell by 5.1% in the reporting period to $7.93 bln, according to figures released on the website of the customs service.

Russia’s coal exports to China are on the rise. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier that Beijing boosted purchases of Russian coal by 52% in 2023. This roughly stands at 90 mln tons.
