TOKYO, February 7. /TASS/. Toyota, Japan’s top automotive manufacturer, is not officially supplying spare parts or units to Russia, though components that are not subject to sanctions may be delivered by dealers to the country and used for servicing vehicles, a company representative told TASS on Tuesday.
"Our company has not resumed supplies of component parts to Russia, this is not true," he said. "However, the maintenance [of Toyota vehicles] is being provided to the extent possible in Russia using component parts that may be received there without violating sanctions," the representative added.
On January 20, Izvestia reported, citing the company’s letter to partners signed by Andrey Shcherbakov, Managing General Manager of Toyota Motor’s Spare Parts Supply and Warehouse Operations Department, that the company had resumed supplies of spare parts and components that are not subject to sanctions, at the end of 2022. That said, Russia’s subsidiary of Toyota allowed its dealers to carry out parallel import transactions on restricted components.
In September 2022, Toyota announced that it was fully closing its assembly plant in St. Petersburg with the annual capacity of 100,000 cars.
The facility commissioned in late 2007 produced RAV4 and Camry models under a special investment contract with Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry.
