Metro retailer confirms plans to stay on Russian market

In Russia, the retailer Metro Cash&Carry operates 93 shopping centers in 51 regions

MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Metro chain of retailer stores plans to remain on the Russian market and maintains its operations, the company’s press service told TASS.

"Metro is maintaining its operations in Russia and is not planning to leave this market," the press service said.

According to the company’s preliminary results in Russia, in the 2021-2022 financial year (ended September 30) its sales grew by 22.3% year-on-year to 2.9 bln euros, the press service added.

"Metro is a responsible business. We understand that now more than ever we must support our customers, small and medium-sized businesses, as well as our employees - more than 11,000 people in 51 cities of Russia," the company stressed.

In the near future, Metro plans to focus on opening convenience stores as part of the Fasol franchise program, as well as on the development of e-commerce, support programs for partners (restaurants, hotel business, independent retail) and investments in pricing, the press service added.
