Generalissimo Suvorov nuclear-powered submarine test-launches Bulava ICBM

The missile launch was carried out from a submerged position in the Sea of Okhotsk in the Russian Far East

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/. The Pacific Fleet’s strategic nuclear-powered missile submarine Generalissimo Suvorov has test-fired a Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile from a submerged position in the Sea of Okhotsk toward a test range in the Arkhangelsk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

"The crew of the Project 955A Borei-A class strategic nuclear-powered missile submarine Generalissimo Suvorov of the Pacific Fleet, in accordance with the combat training plan, test-fired a Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile aimed at the Chizha test range in the Arkhangelsk region," the ministry reported.

It noted that the missile launch was carried out from a submerged position in the Sea of Okhotsk in the Russian Far East.

The K-553 Generalissimo Suvorov is a fourth-generation Borei-A class nuclear-powered submarine (designed by the St. Petersburg-based Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering). The sub features entirely new technical solutions, improved equipment, reduced physical fields, and enhanced protection. Its imported components have been replaced.

The submarine was laid down at the Sevmash Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) on December 26, 2014, and was commissioned into the Russian Navy in 2022. In October 2023, it completed its transfer from the Northern Fleet to the Pacific Fleet and arrived at its permanent base in Kamchatka. The primary armament of the Borei/Borei-A class strategic missile submarines includes 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.
