MAKHACHKALA, January 15. /ITAR-TASS/. The active phase of the special operation in the village of Karlanyurt in Dagestan's Khasavyurt district is over; all the militants have been killed, a local police source told Itar-Tass.
The police who are inspecting the scene of fighting are now ascertaining the precise number of the militants killed in the operation. Engineers are checking the house for explosives, the source said.
Previous reports said three police had been killed and another five had been wounded in the Wednesday fighting.
"According to preliminary information, the SOBR /special rapid response unit/ officers were ambushed as they were checking the information about militants' whereabouts," a police official said.
He added that two gunmen were killed in the shootout as well.
The rest of the gunmen hid in a house which police later blocked.
According to police, one of the wounded officers is in critical condition.
