MOSCOW, January 02, /ITAR-TASS/. Security forces killed two rebels in Khasavyurt, a city in Russia’s North Caucasian republic of Dagestan, on Thursday, January 2, after they had put up resistance, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) said.
Local residents had tipped security services about suspicious persons in one of the flats in Khasavyurt. Police responded immediately, cordoned off the area and evacuated people from the neighboring houses to avoid possible casualties.
It was found out later that there was a two-year child in the flat where the suspects were staying. He was taken to safety after night-long negotiations with the suspects, which also involved their close relatives.
After that security units stormed the flat. The two suspects were injured in a shootout and died. No casualties among the law enforcers were reported.
The investigation is underway.
