Special operation against gunmen in rural house underway in Dagestan

“Probably two gunmen have entrenched in the house. The special operation did not enter an active phase,” the source said

MAKHACHKALA, January 12, /ITAR-TASS/. A private house, where several gunmen may be entrenched, was blocked in the village of Chontual, Kizilyurt District in the Russian North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan, a source in the district law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass.

“Probably two gunmen have entrenched in the house. The talks with them continue. The special operation did not enter an active phase,” the source said.

Meanwhile, several gunmen were destroyed early on Sunday morning, when the latter opened fire at the commandoes, another source in the Dagestani Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.

“The house has been blocked since Saturday night, when commandoes had placed a cordon and the gunmen attempted to break through and were killed. Since Sunday morning commandoes have been searching at the clash site and detectives engaged in the inquiry. The killed gunmen are preliminary identified, but their names will be made public later,” the source said.

The republican law enforcement agencies have not made official comments on the special operation yet.
