SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting kicks off in Bishkek

The meeting plans to adopt the SCO budget for 2017

BISHKEK, November 3. /TASS/. A high-level meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government has begun in Kyrgyzstan’s capital of Bishkek.

"The meeting’s participants will focus on the prospects of economic cooperation between the SCO member states," the Russian cabinet said in a statement. "The heads of government will assess the implementation of the multilateral trade and economic cooperation program." Besides that, the agenda also includes the events concerning the SCO’s projects effective in 2012-2016.

According to the Russian cabinet press service, the SCO budget for 2017 is planned to be adopted at today’s meeting as well as the list of activities scheduled for 2017-2020. In addition, the agreement on the establishment of the SCO University is expected to be signed at the meeting.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Prikhodko earlier told reporters that on the whole, around ten documents were planned to be approved at the meeting. Some of the documents are technical while others are quite important, he said, referring to the Concept of the scientific and technical cooperation and the Program for the development of roads, in particular. "We will brief the participants on the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) activities and share our views of the global economic situation and its impact on the cooperation between the SCO member states," Prikhodko noted adding that transport issues and the war on terror will also be discussed at the meeting.
