G20 summit in Osaka to speed up solution of global economic issues — ambassador

The diplomat noted that the global leaders must overcome the difficulties in trade relations that lead to protectionist policies

MOSCOW, April 18. /TASS/. The next G20 summit, set to be held in Osaka in June, will breathe a new life into the process of resolving global economic issues, Japanese Ambassador to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki said in an interview with TASS.

"During this summit, we would like to state our determination to stimulate global economy by developing free trade and innovations, fighting social inequality, making a contribution to the solution of ecological issues and global tasks," he said.

The diplomat noted that the global leaders must overcome the difficulties in trade relations that lead to protectionist policies, map out the progress in the digital sphere and reaffirm the importance of maintaining gender equality. During the summit, the global leaders will also discuss the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the common efforts aimed at combating climate change.

"As for the bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, they have not been determined so far," the ambassador continued. "This year, apart from the G20 members, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Vietnam, Thailand (ASEAN chair), Chile (APEC chair) and other invited states will take part in the summit. To my mind, various meetings will take place on the sidelines of the summit."
