Threat top the book depository of the main library at the Institute for Information on Social Sciences /INION/, which reports to the Russian Academy of Sciences, has been fully eliminated, the Moscow City branch of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defence said on Saturday.
Fire that broke out in the depository on Friday night kept flaring for almost 24 hours.
"The threat to the depository has been fully eliminated and all the islands of fire nearby have been put out," a spokesman for the department said.
At the time of reporting, firefighters continued the necessary operations on the spot.
"We've regrouped the firefighting crews and measures are being taken now to extinguish the blaze in full," the spokesman said.
