Syrian armed opposition’s delegation arrives in Astana

On May 14, the ninth round of talks on Syria kicked off in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana

ASTANA, May 15. /TASS/. A delegation of the Syrian armed opposition has arrived in Astana to take part in an international meeting on resolving the Syrian crisis, Kazakh Foreign Ministry Spokesman Anuar Zhainakov told reporters on Tuesday.

"Representatives of the Syrian armed opposition have arrived in Astana early this morning," he said. "There are 24 people led by Ahmad Toma [member of the Joint Negotiations Committee formed following consultations between opposition groups, which took place in Riyadh in 2017 - TASS]," Zhainakov added.

According to him, a plenary meeting is scheduled to take place at 15:00 local time (09:00 GMT).

On May 14, the ninth round of talks on Syria kicked off in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana. The parties plan to discuss the current situation in Syria, particularly in de-escalation zones, touch upon humanitarian issues and confidence-building measures, as well as to coordinate further steps to advance the peaceful settlement process. On May 14, bilateral and multilateral consultations took place, while a plenary meeting will be held on May 15.
