MOSCOW, January 20 /TASS/. The strengthening of military cooperation with Iran will help counteracting new regional challenges and security threats, Colonel General Viktor Zavarzin, the head of the Russian State Duma Defense Committee, said on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and his Iranian counterpart Brigade General Hossein Dehgan signed a Russian-Iranian military cooperation agreement in Teheran.
“Russia and Iran have entered a fairly high level of relations, which is qualitatively new in its content. I hope that further strengthening of Russian-Iranian interaction, the expansion and deepening of cooperation in the military field and the filling it with new content will contribute to strengthening confidence-building measures in the military sphere, counteracting new security challenges and preserving peace in the region,” Zavarzin told TASS.
