TEHRAN, January 20. /TASS/. Russia and Iran will be cooperating in the struggle with external interventions in regional affairs, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehgan said after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoigu on Tuesday.
“We regard this visit and the agreement just signed as the basis for developing comprehensive military cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
Special attention at the talks was paid to joint struggle against terrorism and the factors for a worsening of the situation in the region, “including destructive policies by the United States, which interferes in the internal affairs of other countries.”
“An emphasis was made on the need for enhancing cooperation of Russia and Iran in the joint struggle against intervention in the extra-regional forces in the regional affairs,” Dehgan said. “The world situation requires that a strong Russia and a strong Iran should act together for the sake of strengthening international security and regional stability,” he said.
Dehgan voiced the hope that “the just-held talks will be built up from and have the most favourable effect on the situation in the region and the world.”
