Mexico interested in developing security cooperation with Moscow — Russian ambassador

Mexico is interested in developing cooperation between law-enforcement and security bodies of the two states, Russia’s ambassador to Mexico says

MEXICO, August 15. /TASS/. The government of Mexico is interested in developing cooperation between law-enforcement and security bodies of the two states, Russia’s ambassador to Mexico, Viktor Koronelli, told reporters on Tuesday.

He said that last year, four law enforcement officers from Mexico underwent a training program, organized by the Russian Interior Ministry. Their colleagues are expected to attend such courses in the future.

"Judging by the information that I have, the interest is huge, therefore, this type of cooperation will be stepped up further," he said.

Besides, the two states plan to sign agreements on cooperation between the two states’ prosecutor general’s offices and interior ministries.

Mexico has seen an unprecedented surge of violence last year, with more than 31,100 slayings reported, while the homicide rate last year broke down to 25 per 100,000 inhabitants. About 32% of those crimes were committed in the states of Mexico, Guerrero, Guanajuato and Chihuahua.
