Putin invites Saudi Arabia to closer cooperation in gas sector

According to Putin, energy cooperation between Moscow and Riyadh will turn the countries-competitors into partners

SABETTA, December 8. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Saudi Arabia to a closer cooperation in gas sector. He was speaking at the ceremony of loading the first cargo from the Yamal LNG plant.

"Buy our gas and save oil," he said during a meeting with Saudi Arabia's oil minister Khalid al-Falih.

"That is why I am here," the minister responded to the Russian leader’s proposal and congratulated him on launching the Yamal LNG plant.

According to the Russian president, energy cooperation between Moscow and Riyadh will turn the countries-competitors into partners, which is positive for both parties.

"If we continue to work in the same way, then we will be turning from competitors into partners, and everyone will only benefit from this joint work," Putin said.

The Saudi minister noted that such cooperation will change the global energy market. According to him, Moscow and Riyadh are working in the oil field, but oil and gas are closely related. "We hope that the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia will work together and the companies from our countries will work together," he said.
