Putin urges more transparent mechanisms in Russia-India diamond cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin said his talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had focused on the development of cooperation in diamond production and cutting

NEW DELHI, December 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday more transparent mechanisms should be developed in Russian-Indian diamond cooperation.

“India, or companies controlled by the Indian capital, account for more than half of supplies of Russian primary products,” Putin said at a World Diamond Conference.

“In view of such substantial amounts of diamond deals, it is desirable to think about advanced mechanisms of teamwork and the development of cooperation between the countries,” Putin said. “We are inviting our Indian colleagues for work in the cutting sector on the Russian territory,” the president added.

Putin said his talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had focused on the development of cooperation in diamond production and cutting.

“We discussed these issues in detail, gave instructions to concerned state agencies to maximally increase the efficiency of diamond business for our countries, and we are respectively orienting the business circles,” he said.

Putin said favorable conditions should be created for efficient cooperation, administrative and customs procedures should be simplified while security level needs to be increased. “We expect joint and constructive work in this respect,” the Russian leader said.

Putin said India was a world leader in diamond cutting, while Indian Orlov Diamond and Shah Diamond adorned the collection of the Diamond Fund of Russia.
