Soviet experience of postwar reconstruction to be used in Syria, says official

The director of the National Defense Management Center pointed out the mobilization of industrial, human and moral resources of the state

MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/. Experience of reconstruction and rebuilding gained by the USSR after World War II should be used in Syria, Gen Mikhail Mizintsev, the director of the National Defense Management Center said on Wednesday.

He said it while speaking at a session of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters supervising the return of refugees to Syria.

"It’s important to use our postwar experience in restoration of the country and the useful solutions that proved efficacious in other countries, which had suffered from local wars and armed conflicts," Gen Mizintsev said.

He asked participants in the meeting to draw up analysis and to bring it to the attention of the Syrian side, he said.

Soviet experience in reviving and rebuilding the national economy after World War II is absolutely unparalleled because momentous tasks were resolved in virtually no time against the background of a patriotic drive across the whole nation, Gen Mizintsev said.

He pointed out the mobilization of industrial, human and moral resources of the state.

"The restoration of our country, the duration of which was initially assessed as fifteen or so years, was much, much shorter in reality," Gen Mizintsev said. "As early as in just five years after the war the USSR was number two most economically powerful country in the world."
