Pentagon detects, tracks North Korean missile launch

The missile was tracked over North Korea and into the Sea of Japan

WASHINGTON, February 12. /TASS/. The US Strategic Command systems detected and tracked the launch of a missile from North Korea, a spokesperson for the US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) told TASS Sunday.

"The launch of a medium-or intermediate-range ballistic missile occurred near the northwestern city of Kusong," the spokesman said. "The missile was tracked over North Korea and into the Sea of Japan."

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined the missile launch from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America, the spokesman said.

STRATCOM did not specify whether the launch was successful.
