Chinese foreign ministry urges all armed groups in Syria to join ceasefire

A nationwide ceasefire in Syria came into effect at midnight on December 30

BEIJING, December 30. /TASS/. China welcomes the ceasefire agreements in Syria and calls upon all the armed groups active in the country to join the agreements reached by the government and the opposition, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Friday.

"China welcomes the agreements signed by the Syrian government and the opposition and supports all positive steps in this direction. We hope that the government and the armed groups will abide by the ceasefire and that other groups will join it," she noted.

A nationwide ceasefire in Syria came into effect at midnight on December 30. Apart from government forces, seven armed opposition groups, comprising over 60,000 people, have joined the ceasefire. Russia and Turkey act as the guarantors of the ceasefire deal.
