KIEV, June 9. /TASS/. The new governor of Ukraine’s Odessa region, Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Georgia’s deputy interior minister Giya Lordkipanidze chief of the Odessa region interior department.

"First, he is persecuted by no one, second, he is a man of absolute honesty and you will see it for yourselves soon," he told a news conference in Odessa. "I think Ukraine has a lot of honest and decent people."

Saakashvili was appointed Ukraine's Odessa region governor by a decree of the Ukrainian president on May 30. Earlier, he was granted Ukrainian citizenship.
