Three civilians in Gorlovka and two militia fighters were killed, four more people were wounded," the Donetsk news agency quotes the Defence Ministry spokesman as saying.

According to the DPR Defence Ministry, the Kiev-controlled units also used anti-aircraft installations, armored and infantry combat vehicles, anti-tank weapons and small arms.

The Defence Ministry noted that several inhabited localities had been damaged by the shelling, including Shirokino, Ozeryanovka, Gorlovka, Grigorovka and Kalinovka. In Donetsk, the Oktyabrkaya mine, the Volvo center area and the local airport were shelled.

The regime of silence in the Donbas region formally came into force on February 15.
