MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. The Kiev-controlled units have shelled the populated areas in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) 25 times over the past 24 hours, five people were killed and four others wounded, the DPR Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Over the past 24 hours, 25 violations of ceasefire by the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been registered. The republic’s territory was shelled with mortars 14 times, the artillery was used twice. Three civilians in Gorlovka and two militia fighters were killed, four more people were wounded," the Donetsk news agency quotes the Defence Ministry spokesman as saying.
According to the DPR Defence Ministry, the Kiev-controlled units also used anti-aircraft installations, armored and infantry combat vehicles, anti-tank weapons and small arms.
The Defence Ministry noted that several inhabited localities had been damaged by the shelling, including Shirokino, Ozeryanovka, Gorlovka, Grigorovka and Kalinovka. In Donetsk, the Oktyabrkaya mine, the Volvo center area and the local airport were shelled.
The regime of silence in the Donbas region formally came into force on February 15. The requirement for a ceasefire was envisaged by the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements of February 12. DPR has repeatedly stated that the observance of the truce depends entirely on the Ukrainian side.
