Russia, OSCE, Ukraine to hold consultations on Donbas settlement this week - FM

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevgeny Perebeinos said on 112 Ukraine TV channel on Tuesday

KIEV, January 6. /TASS/. Regular consultations between representatives of Russia, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Ukraine on issues of settlement of the situation in the country’s east will be held in Kiev this week, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevgeny Perebeinos said on 112 Ukraine TV channel on Tuesday.

“Another agreement reached in Berlin yesterday is on a meeting of a trilateral contact group in Kiev in the coming days with the participation of Russia, Ukraine and OSCE to discuss a number of issues of the Ukrainian east situation settlement,” the official said, commenting on the Berlin “Normandy format” meeting of the political directors of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France that was held on Monday.

“Such trilateral meetings are often held in this format: Ukraine, Russia and OSCE, that is, our former President (Leonid) Kuchma, Ambassador (Mikhail) Zurabov from Russia and OSCE representative Heidi Tagliavini. They meet rather often and one of such meetings should be held this week.”

Perebeinos also explained the misunderstanding regarding the interpretation of the words by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry representative Aleksei Makeyev on the date of the foreign ministers’ meeting in the “Normandy format.”

“There must be some misunderstanding, as our director did not say that the foreign ministers would gather in Astana,” Perebeinos said. “He said that a telephone conversation in the “Normandy format” was planned for January 9 at the level of foreign ministers and they would discuss the possible preparation of the heads of state meeting in Astana,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
