AirAsia passenger plane disappeared between islands of Belitung and Kalimantan - Indonesia

Indonesian rescuers suspended the search operation after dark. The operation will be suspended at dawn on Monday

SINGAPORE, December 28. /TASS/. Radio contact with Malaysian’s AirAsia passenger liner was lost in an area between the islands of Kalimantan (Borneo) and Belitung, over the Karimata Strait that connects the South China Sea to the Java Sea, Indonesia’s ministry of transport said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, the plane presumably got lost between the cities of Tanjung Pandan (Belitung Island) and Pontianak (administrative centre of West Kalimantan pronince).

Indonesia’s ground air traffic control services lost contact with the Airbus A320-200 passenger liners of the AirAsia airlines that was en route from Indonesia’s second-largest city of Surabaya to Singapore. Radio contact with the plane was lost 42 minutes after the takeoff. According to the air carrier, there were 162 people onboard - 155 passengers, two pilots, a flight engineer and four flight attendants.
