Colombian authorities conduct talks on possible purchase of Sputnik V

Three weeks ago Bogota signed a confidentiality agreement with the Russian side

BOGOTA, February 4. /TASS/. Colombian government is conducting talks with manufacturers of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus on a possible purchase, Colombian Minister of Health and Social Protection Fernando Ruiz reported on Wednesday.

"We continue talks with manufacturers of Sputnik V and there is a possibility of acquiring this vaccine," he said in a speech aired on Twitter of Colombia’s presidential administration.

He added that three weeks ago Bogota signed a confidentiality agreement with the Russian side.

According to the latest data, the number of the coronavirus infections in Colombia reached 2,125,622, with 54,877 fatalities. The first case of the coronavirus infection was detected in Colombia on March 6. On March 17, Colombian president Ivan Duque declared a regime of an emergency situation in the country for 30 days due to the pandemic. Later, the authorities introduced the national quarantine from March 24 to April 13 which has been repeatedly extended. Since September 1, a regime of selective isolation has been introduced in the country.
