Police report over 500 violations during Ukraine presidential election

Polling stations opened across Ukraine will be closed at 8 p.m.

KIEV, April 21. /TASS/. The number of violations reported at the runoff presidential election in Ukraine on Sunday has grown to 562, Adviser to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ivan Varchenko told reporters.

"We have 562 reports [about election law violations]. At the March 31 election this number stood at 522," Varchenko said.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of Ukraine’s National Police Alexander Fatsevich said most reports had come from Kiev, the Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk Regions. Most these facts were related to illegal campaigning, taking photos of ballot papers, vote buying and threat of violence.

Polling stations opened across Ukraine at 8 a.m. and will be closed at 8 p.m. Ukrainians are flocking to the polls to cast their ballots for their next head of state. Actor Vladimir Zelensky, a member of the Servant of the People party, is challenging incumbent President Pyotr Poroshenko in the runoff election.
