Kremlin’s 90-year old New Year tree cut near Moscow

The tree will be delivered to the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square on December 17

DOMODEDOVO, December 15. /TASS/. Russia’s main New Year tree to decorate the Kremlin for the New Year holidays was felled in the Domodedovo District of the Moscow Region on Friday.

"Let everyone have New Year trees at home. Of course, they will not be as big as the one we are cutting today," Ivan Sovetnikov, the head of the regional forestry committee, said before the ceremony.

The tree is about 90 years old and 27 meters tall. The diameter of its trunk is 60 centimeters.

The search for a perfect fir tree for the Kremlin began in Moscow forests months ago.

The tree will be delivered to the Kremlin’s Cathedral Square on December 17.

On December 26, the tree will be unveiled and take center stage on traditional children's holiday shows in the Kremlin, set to delight 6,000 children from all Russian regions, as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
