Twenty-four teenage train surfers killed or injured in central Russia this year

In August, a total of 13 pages were shut down in the social networking system VKontakte encouraging train surfing

MOSCOW, August 16. /TASS/. A total of 24 Russian teenagers hopping railroad cars have been killed or have been crippled this year alone in the Central Federal District, a representative from the Russian Investigative Committee’s transport incidents investigation department told Tass on Tuesday.

"This figure does not include individuals of full age as well as underage persons who went away with small injuries," Yelena Morkovskaya said.

Deaths came as these teenagers were electrocuted or fell from the roof of the train, she said. In a new accident, a teenager died in Bolshevo, a town outside Moscow, earlier on Tuesday after being electrocuted as he was riding on the roof of a commuter train traveling to Moscow.

Early in August, Moscow’s Savelovsky court shut down 13 pages in the social networking system VKontakte encouraging train surfing.
