Prosecutors ask to sentence former Ukrainian president to 15 years in jail

A prosecutor of the Ukrainian Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to sentence former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich to 15 years in prison

KIEV, August 16. /TASS/. A prosecutor of the Ukrainian Chief Military Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to sentence former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich to 15 years in prison.

"The prosecutors ask to sentence former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, charged with treason, to 15 years of imprisonment," prosecutor Maxim Krym said on Thursday during a debate in Kiev’s Obolonsky District Court.

His speech was followed by statements of Yanukovich’s lawyers, who insisted on challenge to the array.

Kiev’s Obolonsky District Court declared a break in Yanukovich’s treason case until September 13, chief judge Vladislav Devyatko said at Thursday’s session. "The court gives a month to the lawyers to prepare for the legal debate and declares a break until 10:00 September 13. The next session will be held on September 13 and 14," he said.
