Some 700 Russian troops alerted in Abkhazia for manoeuvres

MOSCOW, September 7. /TASS/. About 700 troops and more than 150 modern military equipment units of the Russian military base in Abkhazia are taking part in a command-staff exercise that began on Monday, the press service of Russia’s Southern Federal District told TASS.

"The formation’s military were alerted and its units made a march to the exercise area," the source said.

According to him, the troops drilled antiaircraft defense actions during an air raid of the aggressor, as well as contaminated terrain crossing in the conditions of the use of weapons of mass destruction by the enemy.

The press service said that the drills are aimed at improving the command and control of the formation in various types of combat in the coastal area, in mountainous-wooded and even terrain.

The manoeuvres involve the KamAZ "Mustang" vehicles, the BTR-82M armoured personnel carriers, the Akatsiya self-propelled howitzers, Grad multiple launch rocket systems and radio and space communications equipment.
