CHELYABINSK, June10. /TASS/. Specialists of Russia’s civilian nuclear power corporation Rosatom have dismantled 195 out of 201 nuclear submarines decommissioned from the Soviet and Russian Navy, Rosatom Head Sergey Kiriyenko said on Wednesday.
The Rosatom head gave these figures at a forum-dialog on the 70th anniversary of the domestic nuclear industry that opened in Chelyabinsk in the Urals.
‘We have succeeded in ensuring that the submarines no longer line up for their disposal as was the case in the past," Kiriyenko said.
"When we [Rosatom] were assigned these functions in 1999, 120 submarines were waiting for their disposal. By now, we have disposed of 195 submarines, including two structurally unsafe vessels, 75 in the Far East and 120 in the Murmansk Region," the Rosatom head said.
"The process of disposing of the last submarine decommissioned from the Navy in 2013 will begin in 2016," Kiriyenko said.
Last year, Rosatom specialists also completed the disposal of the Volodarsky floating technical base. Work was also started in 2014 to dismantle the Lepse floating technical base and its fuel will be unloaded this year, the Rosatom chief said.
Rosatom specialists have also dismantled the PKDS-60 maintenance vessel and the PM-133 floating technical base in the Russian Far East, Kiriyenko said.
Rosatom plans to dismantle all the 14 nuclear technological maintenance vessels decommissioned from Russia’s Northern and Pacific fleets and two similar ships of Atomflot nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet operator by 2020, the Rosatom head said.
