Lavrov: next round of talks on Trans-Dniester Region will be held in 10-12 days' time

"We came to feel that the American counterparts treat these concerns with understanding," Foreign Minister emphasized

PARIS, March 31 (Itar-Tass) — Russia and the United States have agreed to make efforts towards attaining a goal that is shared by all: to achieve a special status for the Trans-Dniester Region inside a united, sovereign, and neutral Moldova, R. F. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated here on Monday at the close of the meeting with U. S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Minister pointed out that during the meeting the sides had discussed the Trans-Dniester Region issue and «expressed concern, in particular, over the steps being taken by the present Ukrainian leadership, the steps relating to the freedom of travel, the exercise by Transdnistria of its rights, which are sealed in the earlier reached understadings, the carrying out of foreign economic activities, and transit».

«We came to feel that the American counterparts treat these concerns with understanding," Lavrov emphasized. «Regular consultations in the five plus two format — at which Russia and Ukraine act as guarantors, the OSCE as a mediator, Transdnistria and Chisinau as the sides involved in the conflict, and the USA and the European Union as observers — will be held in 10−12 days' time," the Minister said.

«We are calling on our American partners to secure that the process in the five plus two format is effective and is effective and ensures at the present stage a comprehensive approach so as to settle the issue through specific moves," the RF Foreign Minister stressed.
