MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Committee for Control and Regulations has issued a recommendation that the US media outlets designated as foreign agents be barred from accessing the house, says a draft resolution planned to be considered at the Duma meeting on December 6.
"Representatives of the US media outlets designated as foreign agents are to be barred from accessing the State Duma," the document reads.
At the same time, the document suggests that regional legislative assemblies should take similar steps.
The measures are planned to be taken in response to the withdrawal of the RT TV channel’s US Congress credentials.
On November 29, Chair of the Executive Committee of the Congressional Radio and Television Correspondents’ Galleries Craig Caplan, said that the committee "exercised its authority, as garnered by the rules of House of Senate, to withdraw the news credentials of the RT Network by unanimous vote on November 21, 2017."
"This action was taken in response to the registration of RT Networks’ operating company, T&R Productions, LLC (T&R), as a foreign agent," he added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that a yet-to-be imposed ban on visiting the State Duma (lower house of parliament) may apply to at least 9-10 US media outlets.
"I believe that this decision will be made by several bodies of power, including the State Duma. The measure may apply to at least 9-10 US media. May the names of the outlets to be blacklisted be a surprise," Zakharova said at a meeting of the State Duma’s rules of procedure committee, when asked what US media the restriction might concern.
