Pyongyang seeks Russia’s help in Korean Peninsula settlement — lawmaker

"They understand perfectly well that there is no problem in this world that can be settled without Russia," a member of Russian delegation that recently visited Pyongyang said

MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. North Korea requests Russia to assist in settling the Korean Peninsula issue, said Alexei Chepa, a deputy chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee, who is a member of the Russian parliamentary delegation to North Korea.

"We met with the foreign minister, with a deputy foreign minister, with a chairman of the commission on international affairs. They asked, the requested us, they spoke of the possibility of Russia taking part in any settlement of the [Korean] issue," the lawmaker told TASS.

"They understand perfectly well that there is no problem in this world that can be settled without Russia," he added.

According to the lawmaker, "the Russian-Chinese roadmap on mutual freeze [of North Korean nuclear and missile tests and US-South Korean military exercises in the region] is the only possible way to solve the situation."

"So far, they are not ready to implement Russian and Chinese proposals. They view US policies as a threat. They reminded us of problems that Iran had after signing an agreement with the [Iran] Six, and how the US now intends to terminate the Iranian deal," the lawmaker said.
