Putin to hold Military-Industrial Commission meeting on September 20

The president will visit the country’s leading defense enterprise Kalashnikov Concern

MOSCOW, September 20. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will on Tuesday visit the country’s leading defense enterprise Kalashnikov Concern in the Volga Federal District city of Izhevsk, where he will get familiarized with the manufacturing process and product specimens, the Kremlin reported.

The president will hold a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission, the statement said.

Putin held the last meeting of the commission in Moscow. One of the topics was establishment of a federal information system of biometric records and operative and manhunt data. The Russian leader suggested developing it with the use of domestic software and information products.

Kalashnikov Concern turned out to be among Russian enterprises sanctions were introduced against two years ago. Despite that, in 2014 the concern nearly doubled its production volumes of small arms (up to 120,000 items). The concern made up for its loss of the U.S. market by promoting its products in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
