MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. The State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, is fully independent in its decisions, speaker Sergey Naryshkin said at a news conference in TASS dedicated to the results of the sixth-convocation Duma’s work.

"As the State Duma speaker, I have become convinced that the Duma is not only open but also fully independent in its decisions," Naryshkin underscored.

He said that "deputies, just like journalists, appreciate the constitutional freedom of speech." "Not only because this is essential for us but also because truth only appears in dialogue," he said.

Naryshkin said that during the sixth-convocation legislature’s work, "real dialogue returned to parliament, which raised the quality of the entire lawmaking activity."

He noted that the press conference after the convocation is held at TASS, "the most influential and professional news agency."
