MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russia’s delegation has discussed the latest developments and the war on terror in Syria with the country’s President Bashar al-Assad, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The Russian delegation featuring Russian Presidential Special Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and defense ministry’s officials visited Damascus on October 19. The delegation held talks with Bashar al-Assad.

They "considered in detail a whole range of issues on the scenario unfolding in the Syrian Arab Republic and confirmed their firm determination to eventually eradicate terrorist presence and to go ahead persistently to a long-term political solution in the interests of all the Syrians," says the statement.

Since armed conflict broke out in Syria in March 2011, more than 220,000 people have been killed, according to the United Nations.
