MOSCOW, July 26. /TASS/. Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Speaker Valentina Matviyenko is ready to meet with members of the US Congress for Russia is interested in dialogue with US lawmakers, as she herself said at a press conference concluding the parliament’s spring session on Thursday.

"There indeed is a possibility that a [US] senator or even senators will come in August. We are definitely open for dialogue and meetings with everyone. If my working schedule allows, I will be pleased to meet with them provided I am in Moscow at the time," Matviyenko said.

"We are interested in continuing this dialogue," she went on to say. According to Matviyenko, during recent visit of US lawmakers, a baby step was taken "to try to hear each other." Tentative attempts were made to understand each other’s positions, she said, adding that "nevertheless, it is useful and important."

At the same time, the Russian senate speaker noted that the domestic political situation in the United States was making lawmakers to act in a certain way, which was why the tone of their statements made in Russia and in the US was so different. "We understand why such things happen," Matviyenko said.

"We will continue this work. It is not easy but we need it and we will not abandon it," the Russian senate speaker concluded.
