Over 10,000 people have registered for the Moscow marathon

The marathon events are expected to start at 8:00 in the morning and end at 14:30 in the afternoon

MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - More than ten thousand people are expected to take part in the first Moscow marathon on Sunday. The registration fee ranged from 1,000 to 2,000 roubles. The prize fund is 1 million 790 thousand roubles. The winners will get 350,000 roubles as a prize.

Annual marathons had been held in Moscow before. It had been called the Moscow International Peace Marathons since 1981. The marathon has changed its official name this year. It also has a new route. The runners will start at the Luzhniki stadium, run through the Moskva River embankments and Boulevard and Garden Rings and Tverskaya Street and will finish at the Olympic Stadium in Luzhniki.

Apart from the classical marathon distance of 42 kilometers 195 meters, ten kilometer races and a marathon relay race will be held. All the starts are scheduled for 8:00 a.m.

Traffic on some Moscow streets will be limited since 7:00 a.m., the Moscow transport department reports.
