MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Russia facilitates the improvement of contacts between the Syrian government and the opposition, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Friday.

“We maintain contacts with the government, the external and internal opposition. Our task is to improve consultations for preparing serious talks without preconditions,” Bogdanov said.

“The Syrians should gather together and start the dialogue. This will make it possible to bring together views on all issues,” he said.“The Syrian people will determine the fate of Syria and its future,” he said.

Bogdanov is in Beirut at the invitation of Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil. He also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam, parliament speaker Nabih Berri, former president Michel Suleiman and Commander of the Armed Forces, General Jean Kahwagi.

Bogdanov will take part in a solemn ceremony devoted to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. “Russia seeks stabilisation in Lebanon. We’ll continue support for Lebanon in the political, economic and military spheres due to the fact that the Lebanese army and law enforcement bodies fight terrorism,” he said.
