Incident near Russian embassy in Athens did not affect its operation

The diplomatic mission said it has been in contact with "the Greek competent authorities"

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. The incident with a grenade that was thrown into a police box near the Russian Embassy in Athens last night did not influence the operation of the diplomatic mission, according to a statement released by the embassy on Twitter on Friday.

"Today’s incident near the embassy’s consular department affected neither its operation nor the operation of the other branches of the diplomatic mission. We resolutely denounce such illegal actions. We are grateful for the prompt response of the Greek competent authorities and maintain a close contact with them," the embassy stated.

Overnight into Friday, unidentified people hurled a grenade into the police box located near the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Athens when passing by. The grenade exploded; no one was injured in the incident. The area around the consular department was sealed off by police. Greece’s anti-terrorist department is investigating the incident.
