Telegram’s lawyers ask court to postpone pre-trial interview

Earlier, Roskomnadzor set a 15-day deadline for the messenger to provide the source codes required for reading suspicious users’ messages

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. The defense lawyers of the messenger Telegram have asked Moscow’s Tagansky court to postpone pre-trial consideration of the lawsuit filed by the communications watchdog Roskomnadzor, lawyer Pavel Chikov, who represents the company’s interests said in his Telegram channel.

"Telegram has been identified as a participant in the trial. Its representatives are asking the court to postpone the interview till a later date, which will give them the time to see the case files and get ready. A corresponding request has been dispatched to the Tagansky court," the lawyer said.

Chikov said that lawyer Ramil Akhmetgaliyev would represent Telegram’s interests in court on Thursday.

"The interview is a rather formal stage. The court will set a date for preliminary hearings or for considering the case on the merits. No important matters will be decided tomorrow," Chizhov said.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor set a 15-day deadline for the messenger to provide the source codes required for reading suspicious users’ messages. The watchdog’s press-service said in a statement that otherwise it would go to court to press for imposing restrictions on access to the messenger’s Internet resources in Russian territory. The Tagansky court received Roskomnadzor’s lawsuit on April 6.
