Russian telecom watchdog says Telegram won’t be blocked before trial

On April 6, the watchdog filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Telegram messenger

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS /. Russia’s telecom and IT watchdog, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Media will not block the Telegram messenger in Russia until the court's decision, Alexander Zharov, the agency’s executive told journalists on Monday.

"Now, we have filed a lawsuit and we'll wait for the court's verdict. That’s all for the moment... There should be a string of steps, and we act consistently. If you read law you will see that this is not our decision, we execute the decision of another body," Zharov said.

On April 6, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technologies and Mass Media filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Telegram messenger for failing to act on an official request to furnish the keys in order to decrypt user messages within the prescribed time frame.
