Diplomat points to progress in linking Belt and Road project with Eurasian Economic Union

According to the Chinese foreign minister, Beijing is interested in further boosting ties with Moscow as it believes them to be productive and promising

BEIJING, December 12. /TASS/. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has emphasized progress in linking the One Belt, One Road initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) at a meeting with Russian top diplomat Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi, China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Efforts to link the Belt and Road initiative with the EAEU have been producing fruitful results, cooperation between the two countries has been progressing," Wang Yi said. "China seeks to implement agreements reached by the leader of China and Russia and is making preparations for bilateral events planned to be held in 2018," he added.

According to the Chinese foreign minister, Beijing is interested in further boosting ties with Moscow as it believes them to be productive and promising. Wang Yi also highlighted the importance of trilateral cooperation involving India, aimed at building strategic contacts and ensuring common development in Asia.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in Syria.

The One Belt One Road initiative was put forward by Chinese leader Xi Jinping in order to boost the implementation of trade and investment projects. For the past several years, the Russian government has been working to figure out ways to link the activities of the EAEU with the Chinese initiative.
