Putin expects second stage of Yamal LNG to be launched in 2018

The implementation of the Yamal LNG project can give an impetus to nuclear shipbuilding and the Northern Sea Route development, Putin said

SABETTA, December 8. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is confident that the second and the third stages of Yamal LNG project will be launched ahead of time, just as in case with the first one. The president made this statement on Friday at a ceremony of first tanker loading within Yamal LNG project framework.

"This is just the first phase of the large project of 16.5 mln tonnes. I am confident the second stage will also be implemented in advance, already in the next year, and the third stage will also [be realized] ahead of time, at the turn of the next year or early in 2019 in extreme case," Putin said.

Started implementation of the Yamal LNG project can give an impetus to nuclear shipbuilding and the Northern Sea Route development, the head of state said.

"This [implementation of the Yamal LNG project - TASS] does not mean mineral resources production and creation of such gas liquefaction enterprises only, it means further development of nuclear shipbuilding," Putin said.

Development of the icebreaker fleet and the Northern Sea Route will make it possible to perform shipments from the Yamal LNG "to all parts of the globe and all year round," he added.
