Russia having no intentions to recreate Soviet-era centralized planning agencies — Putin

"I'm not joking a bit but, quite naturally, reincarnation of the old model from the Soviet past is impossible in the conditions of nowadays," Putin said

STRELNA, near St Petersburg, June 18. /TASS/. It is impossible to re-create a system of centralized planning agencies similar to the Soviet-era State Committee for Planning (Gosplan) but nonetheless some elements of economic planning are needed, believes Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"I've heard from a number of people, some of them quite liberal in their outlooks, we need a new Gosplan," Putin said on Thursday at a meeting with top executives of Russian manufacturing enterprises. "I'm not joking a bit but, quite naturally, reincarnation of the old model from the Soviet past is impossible in the conditions of nowadays."

He said along with it the elements of planning were to be discussed and worked out in cooperation with the business community, particularly on the issues concerning infrastructure development and regional discounts.

Along with it, Putin stressed the importance of scrupulous compliance with macroeconomic and budgetary policy parameters.
